How to Get from Incheon Airport Terminal 2 to Seoul

KoreaTravel

Incheon Airport serves passengers through two passenger terminals: Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. When Incheon Airport first opened in 2001, it only had one terminal, which was Terminal 1. Terminal 2 is the newer terminal, first opened in January 2018. Even though Terminal 2 began the operation in 2018, a construction project was undertaken post-inauguration to expand the capacity of the terminal. The expansion project was fully completed in November 2024. Since then, the airport authority has been redistributing passenger traffic for each terminal. It is expected that more airlines will operate out of the currently underutilized Terminal 2 in order to reduce traffic load at Terminal 1.

If your flight arrives at Incheon Airport Terminal 2, there are some differences on how you get to Seoul from this terminal. Previously, we explained in details various ways to get to Seoul from Incheon Airport Terminal 1. In this article, we will guide you to choosing between the transport options for getting from Incheon Airport Terminal 2 to Seoul.

Let’s get started.

Incheon Airport Terminal 2 Floor Plan for Arrival

When you arrive at Incheon Airport Terminal 2, you will exit from the restricted area to the arrival hall on the first floor. There are two arrival halls at Terminal 2, namely Arrival Hall A and Arrival Hall B. This is different with Terminal 1, which has 6 arrival halls (Arrival Hall A to Arrival Hall F).

Arrival Hall B at Incheon Airport Terminal 2

In the picture below, you can see the floor plan for the landside area of Terminal 2. As you can see in the picture, the arrival hall is located on the first floor. If you want to take taxi, ride hailing service, or chartered vehicle, you will go outside of the building through the exit on the first floor and then take your ride from the designated bay for each option. In Terminal 1, buses use the first lane (the inner course) outside of the terminal building on the first floor. However, in Terminal 2, you should go down one level to the basement floor (B1) to take the bus. When taking airport railroad or train to Seoul, you should also go down to B1 floor and then follow the direction to the train station.

Public transport in Korea is very convenient. It is very sensible if you plan to use public transport to get to Seoul from the airport and also during your stay in Korea. When using public transport, it is important that you have a Korean transportation card with you. Let’s briefly discuss about the transportation cards.

Klook.com

Choosing the Right Transportation Card

There are two types of Korean transportation cards based on how you pay for your ride: post paid and prepaid. A post-paid transportation card is usually integrated into a Korean debit card or credit card. You are billed monthly on your rides and you pay the total amount of public transportation costs from the previous month or billing cycle. However, this type of transportation card is only available to Koreans or registered foreigners in Korea with Korean bank accounts. If you’re a tourist or visitor, you can only use prepaid transportation card that should be loaded with balance prior to use. The balance will then be deducted every time you take a public transportation ride.

For prepaid transportation card, you can choose between hybrid transportation card and single-purpose transportation card. Hybrid prepaid transportation card functions both as payment card and transportation card. On the contrary, single-purpose prepaid transportation card can only be used to pay for transportation rides. It cannot be used as a payment card. Popular hybrid transportation cards are T-Money cardWOWPASS card, and NAMANE card. For single-purpose transportation card, Climate card has been a popular choice since its launch in 2024.

T-Money Card

T-Money is the most popular prepaid transportation card. Not only does it serve as a transportation card in Seoul, it can also be used in other regions in Korea. You can use T-Money card when paying for metro, bus, taxi rides, or public bikes. T-Money card can also be used as a payment card when buying small items at convenience stores. However, the card does not have a chip, which means that it cannot be used to pay bills at cafes, restaurants, shopping malls, or other bigger establishments that only have IC card readers.

You can buy T-money card at local convenience stores (GS25, Seven Eleven, Mini Stop) after you arrive in Korea. Normal price is KRW 4,000. You can also buy T-money card before your departure and pick up the card at the designated location in Terminal 2.

To add balance to a T-Money card, you can do so at convenience stores (GS25, Seven Eleven, Mini Stop) or use the ticket machines available at every subway / metro station. Amount for your balance top-up is in the multiple of KRW 1,000 and payment should be made in cash.

WOWPASS Card

WOWPASS card is a hybrid transportation card that comes with a chip. This means that besides tapping the card to pay for your transportation rides, you can also use it when shopping at any cafes, restaurants, shops, stores, and other establishments with card readers. If you plan to do a lot of shopping in Korea, this card is for you.

You can buy WOWPASS card voucher before your departure to Korea. As you arrive at Incheon Airport, you can redeem the voucher at the WOWPASS kiosk in front of CU convenient store near Arrival Hall B on the first floor at Incheon Airport Terminal 2.

CU convenient store near to Arrival B (Exit 10) at Incheon Airport Terminal 2 (1F)

To add balance to your WOWPASS card, use any of the WOWPASS kiosks. You can find WOWPASS kiosks in popular tourist spots in Korea. Payment should be made in cash. Balance is initially added to payment balance of the card. You can then transfer this balance to your transportation balance using WOWPASS app.

NAMANE Card

NAMANE card is another hybrid transportation card with chip. Similar with WOWPASS card, this card can be used as a payment card at cafes, restaurants, shops, and other places with card readers. NAMANE card has a unique feature, which is customized card design. So, if you want to have a custom transportation card as a souvenir from your visit to Korea, this card is for you.

You can buy NAMANE card voucher before your departure to Korea. As you arrive at Incheon Airport, you can redeem the voucher at the NAMANE kiosk in front of CU convenient store near Arrival Hall B on the first floor at Incheon Airport Terminal 2, next to WOWPASS kiosk.

NAMANE kiosk at Incheon Airport Terminal 2 (1F)

To add balance to your NAMANE card, you can do so at a NAMANE kiosk. The card separates balance for payment and transportation and you can transfer the payment balance to transportation balance using NAMANE app. The kiosks can be found in popular tourist spots in Korea. Alternatively, you can also add balance to the card using your foreign, non-Korean card.

Climate Card

Climate card is a special transportation card issued by Seoul metropolitan government that offers unlimited public transport rides in Seoul (bus, metro, and bike) for a certain period of time with a one-time fare. However, note that this card will not work outside of Seoul. You also cannot use Climate card as a payment card. This card is to be used only for paying for your transportation rides in Seoul.

If you spend most of the time in Seoul during your stay in Korea, this is the right transportation card for you. For optimal use, combine this card with Discover Seoul Pass that gives you unlimited free entries to more than 70 top tourist attractions in Seoul.
